Issue #001: Career Break (November 2023 to October 2025)
Description
A two-year gap in the role history.
Root cause
Twins. Two of them. I was primary caregiver for our twin boys.
Impact
- Fewer paid engagements during the period
- Limited availability for new work
Resolution
Status: ✅ Resolved. Mastercard contract, November 2025.
During the break I took ad hoc consultancy, worked on crypto markets and on-chain analysis, and started daily agentic AI development. That last item is where the current work comes from. See AI Enablement.
Issue #002: Recent Titles Say Technical Writer
Description
My last two roles, StarkWare and Mastercard, carry documentation titles. The history before them is CTO, lead developer and solutions architect.
Workaround
Read Role History. At StarkWare I led the documentation function. At Mastercard the work includes a RAG content repository for a conversational-AI proof of concept and LLM-assisted review.
Issue #003: Hands-On Coding
Description
I read and review code. I ship with agentic tooling. I do not hand-write production code.
Impact
A from-scratch coding test is my weakest area. If a role depends on that, it is not a fit.
Workaround
Give me a design or review exercise instead. I am strongest at architecture, review and running delivery.
Issue #004: Recency of Team Leadership
Description
My CTO roles were at Folk Digital (2014 to 2016) and Shero Commerce (2017 to March 2018). At Sofa & Chair (2020 to 2021) I directed a delivery agency and ran a permanent Lead Developer hire.
Workaround
The people and delivery record is on Leadership & Delivery.
Issue #005: Geographic Constraints
Description
Based in Dorset. Remote is the working mode. Hybrid is feasible for London and the south coast.
Workaround
Heavy travel and fixed on-site days are a real cost for me, because of school runs. Occasional travel is fine.
Issue #006: Domain Specialisation
Description
Strongest ground:
- AI enablement and LLM-assisted content work
- Card tokenisation (Mastercard MDES) and digital wallets
- Ethereum Layer 2 and on-chain analysis (Starknet, Solana)
- Enterprise e-commerce platform architecture and delivery
When this matters
I am domain-literate in payments and blockchain, not a specialist in compliance or AML. Outside the areas above, expect two to four weeks of ramp-up while I build context.
Issue #007: I Will Tell You When the Plan Does Not Work
Description
If the date is unachievable, the architecture is wrong, or the scope has quietly doubled, I will say so. Early, in writing, to the people who can act on it.
Status
Working as intended. Not scheduled for a fix.
